Flight Leather Jacket

A flight leather jacket (or aviator/bomber jacket) is a rugged, utilitarian outer garment originally designed to protect military pilots from extreme cockpit conditions. Today, it is a timeless fashion staple celebrated for its durability, heritage style, and ability to break in and develop a unique patina over time.

Key defining characteristics include:

Materials: Typically crafted from sturdy animal hides like goatskin, cowhide, or thick sheepskin shearling. The interior often features soft lining (like viscose) or plush fleece/fur for insulation.

Hardware & Closure: Heavy-duty front metal zippers often shielded by a wind flap to keep out cold air, reinforced seams, and sturdy snaps.

Cuffs & Hem: Most classic models feature elasticated knit cuffs and a knit waistband to trap body heat.

Collars: Varies by model, ranging from classic shirt-style collars (on the A-2) to wide, fur-lined mouton collars (on the B-3 and G-1).

Pockets: Large exterior front flap or patch pockets, often accompanied by inner map pockets and sleeve utility/pen slots.
